It’s all well and good us writing this blog for you to use as a guide for the best places to go with your dog, but what happens when you are on the move and your internet packs up? We’ve been to many parts of the country, only to find that we have no signal and are at a loss of where to go if we haven’t planned in advance. The Good Guide to Dog Friendly Pubs Hotels, & B&Bs (5th edition), is the perfect book to carry around with you and is jam packed with dog friendly places to eat, drink and stay in the UK.
The guide includes over 1000 places for you and your dogs to visit and the 5th addition is due for general release at the beginning of March 2013. Written by Alisdair Aird and Fiona Stapley, this book is split into counties and includes a few maps as well as a few walking options. At the very back of the book, there are some report slips for you to fill in and send off to Good Guides if you so wish – This is a lovely little idea because if you haven’t had an enjoyable experience at one of the venues listed in the book, then your knowledge is passed on and those venues can be investigated further, before being included in any future books. We are all treated differently and it pays to make others aware!
Every county listed in the book includes a number of pub, hotel and B&B listings. They are given a short description, a slightly longer, more detailed description and all the important facts are there, including opening hours, addresses, phone numbers, costs, which areas dogs are allowed access to and so on.
Now, we’ve read a few reviews about other dog friendly books and the main complaint was that not enough places were covered in certain areas that people were looking at going to – I guess there is only so much content you can add to a book, without it being far to fat and heavy to lug around! What Dog Friendly UK like about this book is that it doesn’t waste pages on images and gets right down the facts. The only addition we’d like to see are perhaps a few more lines in the pub sections – We’d like to know whether or not they offer doggie grub, a water bowl, a dog mat, or little treats at the bar. It does happen and we love those pubs the most!
We love the Good Guide to Dog Friendly Pubs, Hotels & B&Bs and will definitely be rotating this one between the house and the glove box!
