Recently we started meeting up with our friend Will, who lives closeby and have now begun what appears to be a regular get together, to test out as many local South London eateries as we can. Tonight was the turn of the Great Exhibition in East Dulwich.
Now, we had never actually been out in this area, but from what we saw of the high street, there is no doubt we’ll be heading back at some point for a bit of retail therapy. If we could afford a house there, we’d be looking out for one of those too!
The Great Exhibition came on Will’s recommendation and it certainly didn’t fail to impress, especially because they are dog friendly! This attractive building on Crystal Palace Road gives you the distinct impression that you are going to get some decent grub before you even enter. The interior was calming, with quirky decor and candles lit on every table, creating an exceptionally warm atmosphere, on a crisp October night.
The menu includes everything from sandwiches, house burgers, a fabulous selection of mains (priced £7-£10), mouthwatering specials and to top it off, some pretty tempting desserts. Everything we ate was a delight and if it were not a week night, we could have easily settled down until closing. One advantage of going on a Wednesday however, is that if you demand to roll the large dice behind the bar and get a six, you get your meal for free… Turned out Will’s luck was in!
There is an outside seating area for people with less well behaved dogs and a few little corners for you to sit away in – We sometimes feel the need to keep our puppy out the sight of others when’s she feeling particularly chatty towards other dogs in the pub… It’s always good to have a little corner to hide away in!
We give the Great Exhibition 9/10
Here is a little taster of what you can expect…
Take note of the breakfast menu at the bottom – Any excuse to go back!
